Alabama

Eufaula, Alabama; Appalachian Series

We live in North Florida, so the drive to Eufaula, Alabama was short and sweet. Actually, a better way to describe it was quick and wet- it rained almost the entire time. But it was memorable all the same.

This race was on a Friday, so we left Thursday afternoon after work. We stopped along the way for snacks and drinks, and then checked into our hotel around 6:30pm. A quick wardrobe change and then we headed to dinner at a local spot that absolutely did not disappoint, called the Cajun Corner. It was so good, I'd actually consider drive the 2 hours just to eat there again some day. The menu had everything from seafood pasta to burgers to jambalaya. The portions were huge, we could have easily shared a meal. And every staff member we came across was genuinely nice, even with it being near closing time. Seriously, if you're in the area, check it out.

This race was put on by Mainly Marathons, a multi-day, multi-state running series, as part of the Appalachian Series. The starting line was in the middle of downtown Eufaula, and the run had scenic views most of the way, on the Yoholo - Micco Trail. This course was a bit different, in that the route was short, and you ran multiple laps. At the end of each lap, you picked up a rubber band to keep count.

The weather could have been better, but at least we weren't sweating the entire time. It rained, and I mean RAINED almost the entire time, but no thunder or lightening so thankfully the show could go on. I felt  much better during this race, despite hardly training at all. I joke that maybe I should have ran the full, because of how good I felt running this half. I know we are still early on in our journey, but Kyle and I both hit personal records for time.

Since this race was so close to home, we drove back after we finished the run. We were gone for less than 24 hours, but another check on the list and PR's held for now.
